COLOMBO: Prem Thakkur, the owner of Lanka T10 Super League’s franchise Galle Marvels, has been arrested by the Sri Lanka Sports Police Unit on charges of match-fixing, reports claimed on Friday.

According to the reports, Thakkur was arrested from a local hotel on Thursday in Kandy, where the tournament is being played.

He was then produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court on Friday, and was remanded till December 16.

"The owner of the 'Galle Marvels' team in the Lanka T10 Super League, was arrested and will be produced before court on Friday," Police had said.

Reports further suggested that Thakkur was alleged by a foreign player for approaching him to fix matches in the Lanka T10 Super League.

While the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the matter, Lanka T10 League’s tournament director Samantha Dodanwela confirmed that the tournament “will go as scheduled."

This is the second franchise tournament in Sri Lanka this year, in which an owner is arrested over match-fixing charges. Earlier in May, LPL franchise Dambulla Thunders' co-owner Tamim Rahman was arrested on the same grounds.
